Vietnamese media, The Thao 247, reported that the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has two ambitious targets for 2024. VFF is said to be targeting The Golden Star Warriors – Vietnam's nickname – to qualify for the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification Asia Zone and win the 2024 AFF Cup.
According to a report by The Thao 247, VFF has changed its plans to help Vietnam achieve important goals in 2024 in the AFF Cup, 2026 World Cup Qualifiers and the FIFA Matchday series of matches. The VFF Executive Committee has made plans for Vietnam's professional football season 2024-2025.
The new 2024-2025 season is expected to start in August 2024 and run until June 2025, or two months earlier than the current 2023-2024 season. As a result, the competition times for the National Super Cup, V-League, National First Division and Vietnam National Cup were moved forward.
On the other hand, this season is still ongoing and is expected to end in early July 2024, closing by the final of the 2023-2024 Vietnam National Cup. The schedule changes were made by VFF based on Vietnam's plans and target calculations for 2024.
According to The Thao 247, VFF has two ambitious targets for Vietnam in 2024. VFF targets The Golden Star Warriors to qualify for the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asia Zone and win the 2024 AFF Cup.
“Vietnam National Team Wants to Repeat Its Achievements Under Coach Park Hang Seo?,” reads the title of the article by The Thao 247, quoted Thursday (22/2/2024).
“In particular, the Vietnam National Team's target in 2024 is to win a ticket to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the 2026 World Cup and win the 2024 AFF Cup,” continued the Vietnamese media report.
This indirectly poses a threat to the Indonesian National Team, which will face Vietnam twice in Group F in the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asia Zone. For the first leg (21 March 2024), the Indonesian National Team will be the host and for the second leg (26 March 2024) it will be Vietnam's turn to host.
If they pass the second qualifying round and have a ticket to the third round, then Vietnam will successfully repeat the milestone achieved in the 2022 World Cup qualifying round under the guidance of Park Hang Seo. As for the 2024 AFF Cup, this tournament will be held from the end of November to December 2024.
