Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo emphasized that the naturalization project is not to kill the development of local players. However, this is to give equal rights to players of Indonesian descent who are abroad to defend the national team.
The Minister of Youth and Sports said that the presence of naturalized players would provide color to the Indonesian National Team. So, he emphasized that this step was not to close down the opportunity for local players to defend the Indonesian national team.
“So, in principle, in general, our commitment is not that we want to kill local development. So that is absolutely not true. In fact, we want to explore and collect the potential of this diaspora,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports.
“Perhaps, maybe in the past there was a lot of practice of naturalization or foreign players who played directly in any club or sport, now we at the Ministry of Youth and Sports want to really focus on looking for young athletes who actually have direct descendants and actually have a direct relationship. with Indonesia,” he added.
The Minister of Youth and Sports added that PSSI is currently prioritizing naturalized players who are still of productive age. This is intended so that the player can have a long-term career for the Indonesian National Team.
“Our focus, if possible, is to look for young people, not seniors. Previously, our orders and policies were not only in football but also in all sports,” he said.
Furthermore, the Minister of Youth and Sports said that any player of Indonesian descent abroad had the right to defend his team. However, the player fits the bill and has the first and second bloodlines of the family.
So this is our step in providing equal rights. Because, the diaspora was indeed born to Indonesian parents. “However, those born abroad should have the same rights, so what is certain is that our local development, our focus, will not be lost, we will indeed combine it with the potential of the diaspora,” he said.
