Mycoplasma pneumonia is pneumonia caused by infection with mycoplasma bacteria. This bacteria has also become a topic of conversation among many people because it is suspected of triggering a spike in mysterious illnesses in children in China.
Symptoms of ordinary pneumonia due to pneumococcus can appear suddenly, in contrast to mycoplasma pneumonia which is sometimes not noticed. Meanwhile, in terms of characteristics, the condition of patients infected with pneumonia caused by mycoplasma bacteria tends to be milder than ordinary pneumonia.
The severity of pneumonia can range from mild to life-threatening. The disease is most serious in infants and young children, people over 65 years of age, and people with existing health problems or weakened immune systems.
Recently, 6 cases of childhood pneumonia caused by mycoplasma bacteria have been discovered in Newsdelivers.com. Nevertheless, the Lung Specialist Doctor at Persahabatan Hospital, Erlina Burhan, appealed to the public not to worry.
Quoting CNN, Erlina Burhan said that pneumonia caused by mycoplasma bacteria is actually not a new disease. The bacteria that cause acute inflammation in the lungs have been discovered for a long time, even since the 1930s.
Because it is not a new disease, treatment for Mycoplasma pneumoniae is not difficult to find because it can be found at Community Health Centers and can be obtained using BPJS.
