MOSCOW – The Russian central bank aka Bank of Russia officially does not allow its employees to use iPhones and iPads for work starting December 25 2023.
According to a Sputnik report, Wednesday (6/12/2023), starting December 25, employees will no longer be able to use Apple mobile devices for work.
“The Bank of Russia will also not buy smartphones and tablets from this company,” according to the source citing instructions from Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina.
On December 6, 2023, the Bank of Russia issued a ban on its employees from using Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. This prohibition takes effect from January 1, 2024.
The ban was issued in response to sanctions imposed by the United States and other countries on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
The sanctions have made it difficult for American companies to do business in Russia.
Apple has confirmed that the ban will apply to Bank of Russia employees. The company said it respected the Russian government’s decision.
This ban will affect around 20,000 Bank of Russia employees. These employees will be asked to replace their Apple devices with devices from other manufacturers.
