Shin Tae-yong has brought significant changes to the Indonesian national team. Since being appointed as coach, he has at least had a number of positive achievements.
While coaching the Indonesian National Team, Shin Tae-yong communicated quite often with PSSI. Not infrequently, he made several special requests related to the Garuda squad.
Looking at the many requests that STY has asked for, some of them have been granted by PSSI. Currently, we just have to wait for the results.
Shin Tae-yong’s request has been realized by PSSI
1. Player Naturalization
During Shin Tae-yong’s coaching era, PSSI has carried out a naturalization process for a number of players. Not just anything, this process is aimed at players who have at least Grade A.
The aim of naturalizing players is clearly to strengthen the quality of the Indonesian national team. Regarding the process, PSSI will usually receive recommendations for prospective players from the coach directly.
After that, PSSI will continue the process to the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora). Some names that can be taken as examples are Jordi Amat, Ivar Jenner, Rafael Struick, and others.
2. Strong Opponents on FIFA Matchday
Shin Tae-yong also asked to find quality opponents for the Indonesian national team during the FIFA Matchday agenda. According to the South Korean tactician, FIFA Matchday has at least two goals.
First, improve the FIFA world ranking. This makes sense because if the Indonesian national team wins against a country that is ranked higher, the points will be even greater and can improve its position.
Another goal is to improve the quality of the team. Not only is it a benchmark for current strength, quality opponents can also enable the Indonesian national team players to gain more experience.
STY’s wishes regarding this strong opponent have also been realized by PSSI. In the last few FIFA Matchday matches, the Indonesian national team faced Curacao, Burundi and Argentina.
3. Long Term TC
In a number of age groups for the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong implemented long-term training camps (TC). Regardless of its purpose, this method has received criticism from other parties.
For example, during the long-term training camp (TC) for the Indonesian U-20 national team some time ago. One of the criticisms came from Thomas Doll as the coach of the Persija Jakarta club, who thought that the players should get a lot of flying hours to play, instead of attending long-term training camps.
Apart from long-term TC, STY also often holds training camps abroad. Regarding the reason, he once said that he could test matches with local clubs there.
These are a number of Shin Tae-yong’s requests to PSSI which have been granted and we are just waiting for the results.
