AI Can Be Used to Create a Virus More Deadly than Covid-19. PHOTO/ THE VERGE
SCIENCE – An expert warns that artificial intelligence (AI) technology risks being misused to create a deadly pandemic outbreak.
As reported by Metro Monday (11/9/2023), former Google executive and AI pioneer, Mustafa Suleyman said, AI can be used to produce new types of viruses or bacteria that are more deadly and ‘resistant’ to treatment.
In an audio broadcast or podcast episode entitled The Diary of A CEO, Suleyman warned that the virus could spread more quickly or be more deadly and could ultimately kill people like an epidemic.
“We work with dangerous technology. “We need to limit who can use AI software, cloud systems and some biological materials,” he said.
Suleyman is an AI researcher and entrepreneur from England. He is also the co-founder and former head of applied AI at DeepMind, an AI company owned by Google.
Last March, a number of studies also issued warnings that AI was at risk of being used to create new chemical weapons.
Several AI companies have also acknowledged the potential harm it poses, including the CEOs of OpenAI, Google Deepmind, and Stability AI who signed a statement calling for reducing the risk of extinction from the technology
