JAKARTA – Consumer transactions through the marketplace are still high. Because of this, Tokopedia discloses what product categories consumers are interested in on their platform.
“During the first semester of 2023, the categories of fashion, sports and hobbies as well as electronics are some of the product categories most sought after by the public through Tokopedia,” said Tokopedia’s Corporate Affairs Lead, Antonia Adega.
According to Antonia, Tokopedia can be accessed in 99% of sub-districts in Indonesia. This figure shows the size of the market potential that can be targeted by business actors.
“We are trying to digitize as many MSMEs as possible so that more business actors will experience the convenience and benefit of selling online,” he said.
So, here are some interesting findings related to the trend of people searching through Tokopedia throughout the first half of 2023:
1. Fashion
According to the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenperin RI) in 2023, the creative economy contributes 7.8% to the national economy, where one of the biggest contributions comes from the creative industry in the fashion and craft sub-sector.
At Tokopedia itself, public interest in various fashion products, including those from local brands, is also increasing. Tokopedia noted that sneakers, tops such as t-shirts, shirts and jackets, as well as analog watches were some of the most sought-after fashion products in the first half of 2023.
“Sellers can also use the Product Bundling feature to combine several products in one sales package at a more affordable price. Thus encouraging buyers to shop more. Machine learning technology from Tokopedia can also recommend which products are suitable to be combined with the Product Bundling feature,” said Antonia.
2. Sports and Hobbies
Apart from fashion products, throughout the first semester of 2023, various products related to bicycle parts were the most sought after by the public. Others, hobby products are also increasingly loved by the public. This is evident from hobby products, such as action figures, diecast cars, trading card games and mecha models, which are the most sought after by people in the Sports and Hobbies category on Tokopedia.
3. Electronic
Mobile devices that make it easy for people to communicate and access information from various places are some of the most popular products on Tokopedia. Android, iOS mobile phones, laptops and their supporting accessories are some of the products most sought after by the public through Tokopedia in the first half of 2023.
According to Antonia, businesses of all sizes can also take advantage of the various promotional channels offered by Tokopedia Marketing Solutions, for example the TopAds advertising feature. “With TopAds, products can appear at the top of the search page, with a starting capital of Rp. 250,” explained Antonia.
Machine learning technology in the Tokopedia Search feature is also claimed to make it easier for users to find relevant products.
“Machine learning – part of artificial intelligence or AI, is always carried out in every Tokopedia initiative, one of which is to help people find shops and products that are relevant to their needs,” said Tokopedia Senior Lead Product Manager, Hefrian Syah.
